Tallinn was founded in 1248, but the earliest human settlements date back 5,000 years, making it one of the oldest capital cities of Northern Europe. The initial claim over the land was laid by the Danes in 1219 after a successful raid of Lyndanisse led by Valdemar II of Denmark, followed by a period of alternating Scandinavian and German rule. Due to its strategic location, the city became a major trade hub, especially from the 14th to the 16th century, when it grew in importance as part of the Hanseatic League. Tallinn's Old Town is one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tallinn is the major political, financial, cultural and educational center of Estonia. Often dubbed the Silicon Valley of Europe, it has the highest number of ...

Unfortunately, our short visit in Helsinki is over. We have reached the farthest point from home and now move back in the direction of our home again. Next destination is the capital of Estonia, Tallinn. We take the ferry M/S Star of the ferry ship shipping company Tallink. The ferry needs approximately 2.5 hours for the approx. 80 km. It is a beautiful morning when we arrive at the terminal in the west harbor of Helsinki. The ferry lies ready to go at the pier. The cruise ship Costa Pacifica lies at anchor on the opposite side. With a capacity of more 3700 passengers, it belongs already to the greater ones. We watch the trucks and cars for a while before they disappear in the hull of our ship. After the harbor, we pass the island of Pihlajasaari with its beaches; one says the most beaut...
M / S Estonia - On September 28, 1994 at 01:48 EET Estonia sank in bad weather during a trip from Tallinn to Stockholm. More people were killed than at any other shipping accident in peacetime in the Nordic countries - 852 people. Ship's bow visor broke off in the four-meter-high waves, and water poured into the car deck. The ship had a heavy list that quickly worsened, making it difficult to get out. Less than an hour after the first sign that something was wrong with the ship had sunk. Other ships were nearby and reached relatively quickly to the accident, but had no effective means to save the people in the water: life-and rescue boats could not be launched in the fierce waves. Only 34 people were rescued directly from the vessels and further 104 people with the help of helicopters....

New clothing line! https://shop.spreadshirt.com/finesthq/ The Baltic Sea claimed 852 people's lives by drowning and freezing them to death in the 8 degree C cold water. Only 95 bodies were ever recovered. The wreck of the Estonia was not salvaged, but sealed, covered in sand and declared an official burial ground. The 150 metre long Estonia left the Estonian capital Tallin and sailed into a raging Baltic Sea. Unlike the other car ferries on the route, the Estonia ran at full speed into waves more than 15 meters tall. Six hours into the voyage, she sank to a depth of more than 75 metres. The first sign of danger was the sound of metal scraping against metal. The sound was caused by the weakly constructed locks on the bow visor breaking under the strain of the waves. The visor eventually...
